About Me
My name is Steve-Ivan Salnave. I started playing tennis casually maybe when I was about 4 or 5 years old. At the age of 17, I started taking tennis seriously and begin to practice more intensely. I started reading lots of books about tennis and tried to apply what I’ve learned to my game. I am an honest, sincere, patient, kindhearted and encouraging person, and I try to incorporate all my qualities into my coaching sessions.
I am very keen on improving my knowledge of tennis and I constantly try to improve my skills. I am regularly reading books and articles about tennis, watching the pros on tv, practicing and playing tennis. I believe that, although there are many specific laid out methods for executing certain strokes, unorthodox strokes should not be frown upon or overlooked. The game is constantly evolving and with all the technology we are seeing in strings and in tennis racquets, we have and will continue to see more and more unorthodox players achieving success at the pro level.
Teaching Style
The start of my first lesson, if you aren’t completely new to tennis, would mostly focus on drills that allow me to analyze your tennis stroke. If you have a very unorthodox method that I see is working wonders for you I will only make adjustment where adjustments need to be made. For people who have never played tennis before, or for players who have a stroke that isn’t working for them, I like to teach the semi-western forehand, and the eastern or continental backhand. On all my lessons, I pay attention to my students’ strengths, weaknesses, fitness level, temperament and moral, goals, potential for improvement and overall improvement.
I like to start off all my students at a level of drills where I see and feel they are comfortable with and gradually increase the level of difficulty when I notice satisfactory improvements on their part.
I have no specialty really, but if I could think of anything that I like to teach it would be the one handed eastern backhand, and how to execute the perfect trophy stance serve.
