About Me

Hi, my name is Roger. I have been teaching full time for the past 15 years during the winter indoor season at West Orange and Brook Lake tennis clubs. I was also the assistant pro at Mountain Ridge Country Club for 12 years. I have spent the last 3 years teaching at Orange Lawn Tennis club during the summer. I presently added winter hours at the Murray Hill racket club and at Clifton Racket Club. I grew up with the game of tennis. My father was a coach and tennis was his passion and I was his best student. When your father is a coach, you always learn the proper stroke mechanics and all of the other fundamentals to play tournament level tennis. I enjoy using all of my tennis experience to help bring the game to people who don't have tennis pro parents.

Teaching Style

My dad was a school teacher and he taught tennis the same way we learn in school. I use my dad's system of progression where every step is built from a previous step. This system has been highly successful. I have had numerous students who started as children go on to play college tennis. Most of my students have played USTA tournaments.

Roger was impatient and hard to coordinate with. He suggested outdoor instruction without nets in February rather than waiting until March or April when courts were set up and temperature is more pleasant. He also suggested having 2 three hour sessions vs six 1-hour lessons. In the end, after three 5-10 minute phone calls back and forth he told us that he didn’t want to work with us - because it was “like pulling teeth”. Needless to say, we were not happy with Roger and don’t recommend him.

Very knowledgeable, patient and goes above and beyond to help you and guide you to become a better tennis player.

Glad that Roger can come to us so we don't have to travel to lessons. Roger has positive energy and knows how to teach teen boy well. Learning more in just a few lessons with Roger then in years of tennis summer camp.
